Lessons from the Past .... Knowledge for the Future
Chronic kidney disease is a worsening chronic health problem worldwide. The growing obesity epidemic and numbers of patients with type II diabetes is leading to a rapid increase in patients with chronic kidney disease requiring renal replacement therapy. Renal units are stretched and service delivery is hampered in an attempt to manage the tidal wave of new patients.
Current best practice is based on evidence from many years of research and treatment challenges. Members of the multidisciplinary nephrology team have been shaping the future of renal care by utilising the lessons and knowledge learnt from days gone by, and refining that knowledge into safer, more effective and more patient friendly treatment modalities. Nephrology nurses play a major role in researching, suggesting and implementing protocol changes in all areas of renal care, from CKD management through dialysis modalities and transplantation to end of life care and decision making.
This conference will take the best of what we know already and inspire participants to use the knowledge wisely to develop strategies and programmes that will shape the future of renal care throughout Australasia, to manage this growing epidemic into the future.
