Dr Joanne M Bargman

MD FRCPC

Dr Bargman received her MD cum laude from the University of Toronto, and completed postdoctoral studies at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Australia and at Stanford University in the United States. She is Director of the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit and co-director of the Renal-Rheumatology Lupus Clinic at the University Health Network in Toronto. Dr Bargman has a longstanding interest in peritoneal dialysis and has published numerous papers and book chapters related to this. She sits on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Nature Clinical Practice Nephrology and Peritoneal Dialysis International.

Dr Bargman is co-author of the chapter on Chronic Kidney Disease in the 17th edition of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine.
She has won numerous distinguished teaching awards at the departmental level and faculty-wide awards for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Toronto.

I am currently a nurse practitioner™ with a speciality in wound care, employed by Health Waikato. I registered as a nurse in 1980. My background is in surgical nursing including vascular surgery, and district nursing where my interest in wound care developed. Particular areas of interest include management of leg ulcers and the use of manuka honey in wound care.

As a nurse Practitioner in Wound Care the focus of my role is the management of patients with chronic or complex wounds, in both delivering direct patient care and service development to support best practice and improve patient outcomes.

Previous Chairperson of New Zealand Wound Care Society, life member of the NZWCS and founding member of the International Union of Wound Healing Societies. Currently member of education committee, International Union of Wound Healing Societies and National Leg Ulcer Working Party (NZ). Commentator for Evidence Based Journal of Nursing and Nursing Praxis.

Ngahihi o te ra Bidois is a Professional Speaker, VIP Host and Business, Maori and Education Consultant. His Tribal affiliations are Te Arawa, Tuwharetoa and Mataatua of the Bay of Plenty and Taupo regions. He has a business degree, a teacher's qualification and is currently completing a Masters degree. Ken Farrington has been a Consultant Nephrologist at the Lister Hospital since 1991. After training in chemistry, he went on to qualify in medicine in Cardiff, and complete his Nephrology training at the Royal Free. His main research interests lie in metabolic aspects of CKD, haemodialysis techniques, and conservative management.

Rick Fielding has been a renal physician at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand since 2007. He qualified in the UK and trained in nephrology at the Hammersmith and Lister Hospitals, London.
His research interests include acute kidney injury and peritoneal dialysis.

Michael has a strong faith in Jesus Christ. He is married with 3 children & has 2 fantastic grand children. Michael and his wife have been married for 30 years on 17 March 2009 & he loves her very much.

Michael's life on dialysis started in 1982. In that time he has had 3 great gifts ( Kidney Transplants) which have been a great blessing to himself & his family as he looks back. There have been some mountains to climb but with Gods grace & mercy, Michael's wife, family, friends, & the care & support of so many nurses & Doctors, he is still here & so thankful for his life.

Currently Michael is on dialysis & still doing very well.

William is a keen outdoorsman and enjoys; mountaineering, tramping, kayaking, scuba diving and cycling. He is a primary school teacher and author. William was mountaineering on Mt Ruapehu on the 25th September 2007 when the Mountain unexpectedly erupted. He suffered severe crush injuries to his legs, and acute renal failure.

Dr Nicolette Sheridan (Ngapuhi) is a senior lecturer in the School of Nursing, a lead member of the Integrated Care Research Group, South Auckland Clinical School and Associate Dean Equal Opportunities for the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, the University of Auckland. Dr Sheridan is Chair of the Ministry of Health Primary Health Care Nursing Expert Advisory Group. She has a PhD and Masters in Public Health from the University of Auckland and is a registered nurse with 30 years experience in clinical practice, education and research. Dr Sheridan is an investigator in six multicentre research projects on nursing workforce, care for people with long term conditions and population health. She has worked as a consultant for Government and is currently the NZQA monitor of Te Ohanga Mataora Paetahi: Bachelor of Health Sciences Maori (Nursing), Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi.

Peter Sizeland graduated from the University of Melbourne. He had renal training in Auckland and Christchurch and his current position is as a Renal Physician at Waikato Hospital.

Interests include clinical nephrology, particularly fluid and electrolyte disease and peritoneal dialysis.

Peter is married (to the long suffering Wilma) and has 3 children. His outside passions are fly fishing, food and wine.

Maggie Fisher is the Clinical Director of Renal Medicine at Waikato Hospital. Maggie is a New Zealand nephrologist , who carried out postgraduate training at the Hammersmith Hospital in the UK. Her research and clinical interests include autoimmune kidney disease and more recently chronic disease management with a strong focus on diabetic nephropathy.
